NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, January 4th, 6:30 PM, at Home State Bank (303 E. Mountain Ave.)
A Letter from the President
Greetings Modeleers,
I hope you had a great Christmas! The holidays are over and another new year is upon us. That also means warmer weather and another flying season is that much closer! I wish you and your family all the best throughout 2012.
After some negotiating and re-planning, the swap meet is back on for 2012! As I reported last month, the McKee building at the Ranch was unavailable for booking January through March, and we were unable to find another meeting room location that would come as well-equipped at an affordable price. Thus, the board agreed that we should push the event back to April, our only option for reserving the space on a Saturday. Although we were hoping to schedule for January, I feel this later date may actually be beneficial to attendance in three ways. Firstly, it will extend the date away from the Jefco club’s annual auction. Secondly, it will reduce the chance of poor weather keeping attendees away. Lastly, there are few events of this type in our area at that time of the year, and I feel this will hopefully attract many modelers who are “gearing up” for the flying season. Therefore, the meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 7
th, 2012. We have reserved the use of the largest section of the McKee exhibition hall, which will give us 7,500 square feet of space – 3x the room we had at our first meet! To help advertise this event, I have discussed our plans with Jim Wallen, the AMA District IX vice president. He has agreed to mention the event in an upcoming district report in
Model Aviation magazine. In addition, the date is far enough out that we will be able to submit information to be listed in the
Model Aviation event calendar. Because we will be using the exhibition hall, there is a small fee associated with the rental, and the club must provide liability insurance for the day. Adequate event insurance is available to the club through the AMA. Complete information will be presented at the January meeting, and we will be discussing how much the club should charge sellers at the event.
Don’t forget! It is time once again to pay your annual club dues! Please mail your check (along with AMA number) to: Jim Ferry, 700 Dellwood Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Or, you can bring your check to the January club meeting!
The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 4
th, 6:30 P.M., at Home State Bank (303 E. Mountain Ave. in downtown Fort Collins). If you have any new winter projects you would like to display for the group, please bring them along for show n’ tell!
